Kavita is a dedicated professional with more than 20 years of experience designing programs in the nonprofit sector, delivering services to achieve equity and community impact. As a Director she guided teams to deliver programs with an eye on inclusive services that center people and internally established strong organizational systems for her teams and transparent financial oversight for large (multi-million dollars) and smaller-scale initiatives.

Kavita launched her nonprofit career at New Visions for Public Schools (NYC) running a multi-year AmeriCorps program that provided technology, training and support services to public schools; continued digital access and training with the Oakland Technology Exchange, managing curriculum and outreach, providing technology to 1,600 families and engaging residents in monthly community service events. As the Executive Director of the Community Technology Centers' Network, her team managed a $3.7 million grant program that provided funding to 150+ community-based organizations, organized 4 annual conferences and supported 600+ member organizations.  At Community Solutions, she managed a state (CORE) and a city (MAP) funded initiative that served 8 communities, bringing together residents, city officials and nonprofit service providers to address public safety. Most recently, Kavita worked with the Discipline Revolution Project helping districts and schools move away from punitive discipline and toward inclusive, culturally responsive learning communities.

Kavita hails from a South Asian family with a strong ethic of community, who laid their roots in Central Pennsylvania. She brings this community ethic to the diversity and inclusion efforts she facilitates locally, along with years of working to help more vulnerable groups navigate inequitable systems and demand more anti-biased and inclusive environments.

Kavita also runs Made for Me Books, an organization focused on providing diverse books to young people that reflect themselves and stories of our multicultural world and neighbors. She has a B.S. from Drexel University and an M.Ed. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. A Founding Member of Racial Equity Partners, Kavita lives in Harlem, New York with her family.
